We are new to aurora spotting. We are semi retired and keen to travel to good aurora locations.
Over the last several years I have been trying to see the aurora on the south coast of Australia. My attention was grabbed by this shot in the Geelong Adveriser by Lachlan Manley in June 2015. One of the shots was even from my beach.
I decided that I’m going to see an Aurora. Its October 2018 now and I still haven’t found one. I have subscribed to ips-aurora-alert@ips.gov.au who send me alerts. The massage usually explains why there may be an aurora and say a new message will notify if something eventuates. But the second message either don’t materialise or its too cloudy or I’m asleep. To see an aurora, much persistence is required.
Incidently Lachlans excellent photos can be purchased from his website.
